Graduate Certificate Applicant This format is used by individuals who hold a teaching certificate and will be using the credits to renew their license or to qualify for financial aid. In addition teachers in Michigan who will be using these credits to obtain the NP endorsement must also use this application process. This is a non-degree enrollment that does allow for financial aid or scholarships if you meet all the requirements for the same and are taking at least 5 credits per semester. Graduate Degree Applicant Most students who are teachers do not apply for admission to the program as a Master’s degree student until they have enrolled for their third course in the Certificate program. Typically, they wait to do so because when they begin the program they are unsure of whether they want to earn a Master’s Degree. And while the courses are the same, it would cost more to take the initial courses as a Graduate Student than as a lifelong or graduate certificate student. However, depending upon individual circumstances, (amount of financial aid limits reached; reimbursement options by employers; eligibility for graduate assistantships/scholarships/ or grants based on tribal affiliation) some teachers may initially enroll as Graduate Students, in which case they follow the application process explained on the Master's Admissions page. Note: Students who are enrolled in a degree program at MSU may enroll through the normal MSU enrollment process. Those students are advised, however, to contact their program advisor to assure that these courses will be applicable to their program of study. |
