Q. Does it lead to School or State Certification?

Students will receive a certificate from the College of Education indicating that they have achieved a satisfactory level of knowledge about and experience with many of the applications of technology in education. Students do not gain certification from the State or any other organization by completing the certificate program. However, these three courses are part of the new Educational Technology endorsement course requirements. Participants will need to complete an additional 4 courses in order to obtain the endorsement. In addition, the credits may be applicable for participants who need to earn graduate credits for their professional licensure.

Q. Can I take some of the courses face-to-face and some of them virtually?

Yes! You can take any of the courses face-to-face or virtually. For example you may want to start with taking CEP 810 face-to-face and then move into the virtual courses for CEP 811 and 812. Whatever combination works best for your schedule. The exception to this is our accelerated summer courses. Due to the accelerated format of these courses, all three must be taken at once in the face-to-face format.

In this Certificate program, a very high priority has been placed upon using state-of-the-art technology to teach the courses. Whenever possible we have tried to offer tutorials for free open source programs to accommodate as many of our students as possible. Microsoft Office (or the free Open Office) and Dreamweaver (or the free web editor called NVU) are the main requirements for the program.

For our online program you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. A browser that meets the ANGEL minimum requirements;

  2. A minimum screen resolution of 800x600 (1024x768 recommended);

  3. A broadband (high-speed) Internet connection;

NP Endorsement

Q. What is the new Educational Technology (NP) endorsement?

The NP endorsement program is based on a set of national standards for advanced programs from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the same professional organization that developed the National Education Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T) and for Students (NETS). A panel of educators from higher education and K-12 examined and adapted these standards for the State of Michigan and in 2002 the State Board of Education approved the standards as foundation for all approved programs.

Visit the Endorsement page to learn more about how this can be applied towards your current teaching license.
